Community Blood Centers and Hospital Blood Banks

Seraplex has long standing relationships with many community blood centers throughout the United States.

The main focus and goal of all community blood centers is to provide consistent and vital blood products to hospitals and patients in their surrounding communities. However, in the process of drawing donors for these vital products, such as Fresh Frozen Plasma, Red Blood Cells, and Platelets, blood centers will often have surplus volumes of certain products that cannot be used for transfusion. One of these surplus products is female recovered plasma. Since recovered plasma cannot be made from female donors, it becomes a surplus product for blood centers and hospital blood banks.

Seraplex’s role is then to provide new markets for these surplus blood products. We can purchase red blood cells, buffy coats, recovered plasma, and cryo reduced plasma. The red blood cells, buffy coats and recovered plasma is then sent for in vitro diagnostic manufacturing for use in the manufacturing of in vitro diagnostic controls and calibrators.

Recovered Plasma

Seraplex also bridges the gap between plasma fractionation companies interested in purchasing United States Recovered Plasma and community blood centers with surplus recovered plasma. Seraplex assists community blood centers with larger amounts of recovered plasma in getting approved by plasma fractionation customers to sell their plasma for therapeutic manufacturing. Suppliers are evaluated based on quality surveys, site visits, and annual performance reviews to ensure that our customers receive products of the highest quality.

Once a blood center is approved, Seraplex facilitates the necessary quality and logistics information to the blood center to ensure that both parties understand the relationships and expectations of selling recovered plasma.

Red Cells and Source Leukocytes

In addition to Recovered Plasma, Seraplex works with blood centers to find new markets for Red Blood Cells, both expired and in date, and Source Leukocytes, or buffy coats. These products are used for the manufacturing of in vitro diagnostic controls.

Serpalex assists blood centers with the shipping and logistics of these products from the blood center, and each unit is individually screened by our Distribution Department and Quality Assurance Department.
